Recognition of service

The Foundation issues awards and commendations to recognise members, individuals, and organisations that have demonstrated merited service to the Foundation and the advancement of young people.

Service to the Foundation

Recognises sustained contributions to the Foundation’s organs, programmes and daily work.

Advancement of young people

Recognises members whose work has advanced the rights, participation and empowerment of young people beyond the Foundation.

List of Honours and Commendations

The Grand Order of the Crocus

The Grand Order of the Crocus is the highest award given by the Foundation. The Order is awarded by the Executive Director in the name of the Foundation, upon a joint resolution of both the Board of Trustees and the Governing Body of the Foundation. All recipients of The Grand Order of the Crocus are automatically inducted as Honourary Members of the Foundation.

Recipients of the Order receive a physical insignia, which consists of a star, and a badge for the Grand Medal or a collar for the Grand Collar.

The Award has two ranks:

  • The Grand Collar of the Crocus (First Class), traditionally reserved for dignitaries at the level of Head of Organisation, Head of State, and Head of Government;
  • The Grand Medal of the Crocus (Second Class), given to all other recipients.

The Order of Merit

The Order of Merit is awarded to organisations and individuals that have demonstrated exceptional service to the Foundation, its Members, and its mandate. The Order of Merit is awarded by the Executive Director in the name of the Foundation, through a decision by either the Board of Trustees or the Governing Body.

The Order has four ranks:

  • Grand Commander (First Class)
  • Commander (Second Class)
  • Officer (Third Class)
  • Member (Fourth Class)

Recipients of the Order receive a physical insignia, which consists of a sash and a star for the Grand Commander, a star for the Commander, and a wearable medal for the Officer and Member.

The Quinquennial Commendation

The Quinquennial Commendation is a new award created in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the Foundation. It is awarded to members of the Foundation and its Secretariat who have provided long, reliable, and meritorious service to the Foundation.

The Executive Director provides nominations for the Commendation, which are then approved by the Board of Trustees; the Chair of the Board awards the Commendation on behalf of the Foundation.

Recipients of the Commendation receive a diploma.

The Commendation has two ranks:

  • Gold (First Class)
  • Silver (Second Class)

Insignia and diplomas

Any recipient of a Foundation award that provides a physical insignia may voluntarily petition to receive a diploma in lieu of the physical insignia, and donate the cost of producing the insignia to the Foundation’s programmes.
