In-kind and monetary contributions for eligible organisations, on specific thematic projects.
How the Foundation funds
The Foundation does not operate permanent grant programmes that are open to the public. Instead, it offers in-kind and monetary financial contributions to specific eligible organisations for specific thematic projects.
The Foundation primarily funds organisations. Funding for individuals is possible only through a supporting entity that holds Accredited Entity (AE) or Invited Entity (IE) status.
Two ways to receive funding
Accredited Entities (AE)
Organisations that complete an application and receive approval from the Board of Trustees.
Invited Entities (IE)
Organisations that the Foundation Secretariat, with the consent of the Board of Trustees, automatically determines to be eligible for funding. Generally reserved for organisations that already hold partner or observer status at the Foundation, or for Foundation-identified organisations for specific Foundation-led projects.
Becoming an Accredited Entity
Any organisation may apply for accreditation. Applications are reviewed by the Secretariat and decided by the Board of Trustees; approved organisations are notified in writing and entered into the Foundation’s register of Accredited Entities.
Application format
Applications should be submitted as a single document containing, in order:
- 1. Legal name, registration status, country of operation and contact details of the organisation;
- 2. Description of the organisation’s governance structure and leadership;
- 3. Description of the organisation’s programmes and activities, and their relevance to the Foundation’s mission;
- 4. The thematic project or projects for which funding is sought, with an indicative budget;
- 5. Most recent financial statement and a description of the organisation’s sources of funding;
- 6. Any partnerships, network memberships or accreditations held with other institutions;
- 7. Supplementary information the organisation wishes the Board of Trustees to consider.
How to apply
Send the completed application to development@dmun.org with the subject line “AE Application — [name of organisation]”. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the Secretariat may contact you for clarification before the application is put before the Board of Trustees.
Invited Entities
If your organisation holds any of the following, it is automatically eligible for IE status:
- 1. Partner of the Foundation (via a Memorandum of Understanding)
- 2. Observer at the Governing Body and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation (by decision of the Trustees or the Governing Body)
- 3. Inclusion in the OECD DAC List of ODA-eligible international organisations
- 4. Accredited Entity of the Green Climate Fund
- 5. Agency of the United Nations system
- 6. Observer status at the United Nations General Assembly, or a standing invitation to ECOSOC
- 7. Member Organisations of the Foundation (via adhesion to the Foundation)
- 8. Individual Members of the Foundation
